Second world record set at Vladimir Salnikov Cup

21/12/24

On December 20, the Russian men's national team set a junior world record in the 4x50m freestyle relay. On December 21, the second world record was rewritten at the Vladimir Salnikov Cup! In the preliminary (!) heat, the Russian team again broke the junior world record. Now at a distance of 4x50m in the combined men's relay.

Russian athletes managed to break two world records at once at the Vladimir Salnikov Cup held in St. Petersburg. On December 19, Alexander Nazarenko, Roman Zhidkov, Vyacheslav Zuev and Ilya Zakharikov set a new junior world record in the 4x50m freestyle. And although the youth team finished only third, but definitely, the pace set by the adult "collections" was supported by a promising team under 18 years old. But before the finals of the third and final day began, the second world record was updated on the tracks of the Nevskaya Volna Central Exhibition Center. This time, Yegor Proshin, Gleb Timofeev, Roman Zhidkov and Ilya Zakharikov (who scored in both heats) distinguished themselves in the 4x50m combined men's relay. But today the guys also have the final swim ahead of them, where you can expect new record seconds.

To these two world achievements among young men, we should add four more junior records of Russia, which were shown at the Salnikov Cup by girls. Such an abundance of top achievements among juniors indicates great prospects for a new generation of our swimmers.

How not to remember the words of Vladimir Salnikov, who announced the tournament, said that there was still one application from a participant to set a world record. Although, it is quite possible that we are still waiting for some kind of record-breaking surprise.

Today, December 21, is the last final day of the tournament. The Cup is held at the Central Exhibition Hall "Nevskaya Volna" at the address: 8 John Reed Street, lit. A, building 2, accommodating 1,500 fans. The competition includes 41 disciplines. On the final day, 14 finals will be held.
