The first Vice-President of the Russian Aquatics Federation Vladimir Salnikov announced that: “This year, St. Petersburg is hosting two major swimming competitions in a row. These days the Russian Short Course Swimming Championship is taking place in Saint-Petersburg, and in less than a month the Vladimir Salnikov Cup starts.

The organizers and the sports staff of the national team, have considered that this combination is the most successful. All the athletes are at their peak sports training. The winners will be able to once again to challenge the world records. Those who lost at the Russian championship will have another chance to win back at the Salnikov Cup. Everyone will benefit: athletes, coaches and, especially, spectators.”
